Riders Team SD Worx donate EUR 2350 to the TRADE project

19 April 2021

The riders of Team SD Worx have donated their prize money from the Amstel Gold Race worth € 2350 to the TRADE project. With a second place for Demi Vollering and four riders amongst tthe top 20, the cycling team rode a strong race in the Limburg hills.

The TRAuma and DEmentia (TRADE) project of psychiatrist and researcher Sjacko Sobczak focuses on the fact that traumatic experiences can lead to serious psychiatric complaints. It even doubles the risk of dementia. When people develop dementia, the experiences of the traumatic experience can reappear in full force.

Sobczak: “But not everyone who experiences a traumatic experience develops problems. This has to do with resilience, among other things. Part of this resilience may already be in your DNA, but other factors also play a role, such as your physical condition and whether you live a healthy life. Exercise, healthy eating and limiting the use of stimulants not only keep you physically but also mentally fit."

“It is a subject that appealed to us as a team. Resilience is very important in our sport, while we as top athletes promote more exercise anyway ”, says Chantal Blaak.

Team SD Worx has also donated a Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL7 race bike (size 52), equipped with SRAM components  (retail value approx. 11,000 euros), which is sold by auction. There are also five Team SD Worx cycling jerseys signed by all riders available on the Maastricht University crowdfunding website via the link below. This promotion runs from Friday April 16 to Sunday April 25, the day of Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

Finally, all interested parties can donate money via our special Team SD Worx campaign page. More information about the crowdfunding and promotion of Team SD Worx can be found via this link
