Elena Cecchini

The Italian, Elena Cecchini, has signed a contract until the end of 2022. Her main role is to strengthen the team for the spring classics. "I've been watching Elena's achievements for several years", Stam says. "I know she is a very good rider whose best is yet to come. She has already done well in the classics and came first in stage races such as the Thüringen Rundfahrt. She also has excellent racing insight. She has been part of the same team (Canyon-Sram) for the past five years. A new team with another type of guidance, atmosphere and working methods may have a very motivating effect on her."

Elena Cecchini, the friend of top sprinter and Olympic track champion Elia Viviani, was surprised when she got a call from Stam during the coronavirus lockdown. "At such a time of uncertainty and without any races, I wasn't expecting to be offered a new contract any time soon. I took my time to consider the offer carefully. After five years with my current team, it isn't easy to leave this familiar environment. However, I think this is the right step for me right now. Boels-Dolmans has always been the best team in women's cycling in recent years. They have been at the top of the world rankings with many different women. This proves that the team offers proper structure and guidance. I am proud that this team has asked me."

Cecchini also likes how Team SD Worx approaches cycling: "The team always relies on its own strength and tries to create opportunities itself. I also like the fact that I can ride together with Anna van der Breggen for another year. I hope to learn a lot from her. I am delighted that Anna Van der Breggen and Chantal Blaak will be joining the coaching/team management team in 2022. The team has already introduced many innovations in women's cycling. This is another positive step in the further development of our sport. I love that two of the best cyclists will be helping me in the future."
