Ashleigh Moolman Pasio

Team leader Danny Stam is very happy with the arrival of 34-year-old Ashleigh Moolman. The South Africa rider ended in the summer of 2018 at place 6 of the Giro Rosa. Stam is convinced: "I think Moolman is one of the best climbers in the women's peleton".

For many years now, all-rounder Moolman has been a fixture in both stage races and hilly one-day races. With every climb, she can be seen riding near the top of the peloton. "I am hoping that in the tougher races, Ashleigh will be an extra rider to play a part in the finals. This will allow us to ride in a more dominant way", Stam continues.

Moolman has been one of the most consistent riders in the Giro Rosa's rankings in recent years. In 2018, the South African finished second in this appealing stage race after Annemiek van Vleuten and 2019 she became in fourth. Team SD Worx will be taking over the current Boels-Dolmans Cycling Team in 2021 and has been able to secure Ashleigh Moolman for the next two years.

"I have been impressed by the professionalism of Boels-Dolmans for several years now", Ashleigh says. "I've always wanted to ride for this team. I like the way the team works rides as one solid competitive force and takes the initiative in races."

Moolman believes that the team's strength is that it is not afraid to use several advantages as it enters the finals of the major races. "Although the team will change slightly this year, its core will remain largely the same. This strong team offers us many options in the races for this seaon. We have several cards to play in the final, which makes us unpredictable for our opponents. This will also make the races more exciting for the public."

The South African rider is looking forward to being part of one team together with double Imola world championship winner, Anna van der Breggen. "It may sound strange, because I'm three years older than she is, but I hope to learn a lot from her. I started cycling only at the age of 23, so that is why I often still feel like the new girl."
