Femke Markus

Femke Markus was brought to the team in 2023 as part of the lead-out train for Lorena Wiebes, but developed into a master servant. Markus had an incredible ride in Paris-Roubaix, but fell in the final sprint for victory on the illustrious piste Andre-petrieux in Roubaix. "Femke had the chance of a lifetime there," sports manager, Danny Stam, looks back. "How she rode in Paris-Roubaix did give us immediate confirmation that we had brought in a good rider with Markus. Someone we can build on. When you have her in the team, you know that sixty per cent of jumping in front of the break is done by her. She does a good job as a servant. Hopefully she will continue this line this season and get stronger again. So that she can compete in the final for longer. The classic races suit her best. Femke is a 'go-getter'. The worse the conditions, the better."

Markus is satisfied with her first year at Team SD Worx-Protime. "I have already learnt more than I thought possible in one year. I wanted to get better and I succeeded. With such a team around you, you can't do anything else. Team SD Worx-Protime instilled in me that I have to think how my actions ultimately benefit the team. When you do a lead-out, you have to ride the way the riders behind you in the sprint train want you to. That's how you win races as a team. And I can genuinely enjoy that. When everyone's nose is in the same direction and we race together with passion, that's just kicking. We laid the foundation for that unique family and team feeling last year during the team-building camp in the United States at Specialized."

"My transfer to Team SD Worx-Protime was my absolute dream step," Markus continued. "When I made the switch from skating to cycling five years ago, I didn't expect to ever have the chance to win Paris-Roubaix. It was my best race last season. It went so well and my actions were smart. Only the sprint on the track went all wrong. Paris-Roubaix is my dream race and I would have particularly liked to have won this classic. Of course I was disappointed, but I now see it as a learning point that gives me a lot of motivation. I can win this race one day. I am convinced of that. But I still have a lot to learn and get stronger. So that is my goal for this season. To take new steps, ans preferably also win a smaller race myself. For me, however, the most important thing remains that we dominate and win races as a team.”
