Elena Cecchini

Italian rider Elena Cecchini is in her second season with the team. Her arrival has reinforced the team for the spring classics. “Elena is a fine rider we can always count on. She always puts the team's interests above her own, which we really appreciate,” sporting director Danny Stam says. “We haven't seen the best of her yet. We expect her to take a new step forward this season after some adjustments in her training. It is our aim to take Elena to a higher level.”

In her career so far, Cecchini has already achieved some great results in the classics, but she has also won stage races such as the Thüringen Ladies Tour. She excels in her racing insight. She gets tips from her partner, top sprinter and Olympic road champion (2016) Elia Viviani. They make each other stronger, Elena says. “Elia is always working on marginal gains. Every time he gets near my bike, he has another small comment. His advice is particularly useful in sprints. In the mountains, perhaps not so much (laughs). I matter a lot to Elia mentally.”

The Italian is satisfied with her first year at Team SD Worx. “I have found my place in the team. I am a domestique in many races, but have also expressed my ambition to win some races. Above all, I want to be a teammate you can trust and at the same time be capable of winning myself.”

Cecchini has established herself as someone who creates a great team atmosphere. Almost all her teammates call her the funniest person in Team SD Worx. She really feels at home in the team. “I like the mentality. We always rely on our own strengths and try to create opportunities ourselves. I think it is great that I was given the opportunity to race alongside Anna van der Breggen for another year. This team is a true pioneer in women's cycling. I applaud the fact that Van der Breggen and then Chantal Blaak are moving on to coaching and team management. The team has already introduced many innovations in women's cycling. This is another positive step in the further development of our sport. I love that two of the best cyclists will be helping me in the future.”
