Third podium in a row for Majerus Meilen

2 January 2018

A day after her win in Pétange and only two days into the new year, Christine Majerus added a second place to her 2018 results list on Tuesday. In the EKZ CrossTour in Meilen, Switzerland, the Luxembourg champion finished behind home rider Jolanda Neff (Kross).

“I was a bit tired from a lot of travelling and racing under hard weather conditions, so I am quite happy that I could still animate the race,” Majerus said.

The race in Meilen was the final round in the EKZ CrossTour, Switzerland’s national cross series, and therefore attracted some strong riders like Neff, Juliette Labous (Team Sunweb) and Pavla Havlikova (Kooperativa), who secured the overall win in the EKZ CrossTour GC. Meilen was the first and only EKZ cross race that Majerus entered in the 2017-2018 cross season.

“I was in the flow today, until the last lap,” Majerus said of her race. “Then as I saw that Jolanda was stronger, I gave up a little bit. That’s why I got quite a lot of seconds in the end, which doesn’t reflect the race.”

Since coming back from team camp in Spain mid-December, Majerus has been struggling slightly to come back into her rythm. She opted for smaller cross races to get back into shape, a decision which turned out successfully. Majerus’ last result in 2017 was a win in the Coupe de France cross race in Flamanville, while she started the new year with a victory in Pétange on home turf. Stepping onto the podium in Meilen, it was the third podium finish in a row.

Looking towards the build up to the World Cyclocross Championships in Valkenburg, the Netherlands, early February, Majerus continues to choose the smaller UCI races in order to peak at Worlds.

“The next races will only be regional and the national championships,” Majerus said. “I try to take it as good training and hopefully this bloc of racing will bring me back to a good race rythm, so that I’ll be able to get a good result at the last World Cup race before Worlds.”
