Team SD Worx-Protime goes for three in a row in the Tour of Flanders

"In many scenarios we are opportunity-rich"

29/03/2024

Team SD Worx-Protime has already won the Tour of Flanders six times in its history. This year, the team is going for a seventh win. In the last two seasons, Lotte Kopecky was the best in 'Vlaanderens Mooiste'. The world champion is also the big favorite this year and can make history by being the first woman to win the Tour of Flanders three times in a row. However, the team has other irons in the fire. "We are not betting on one rider. We have several spearheads and the goal is to take the win with Team SD Worx-Protime," said sport director Anna van der Breggen.

Lotte Kopecky: "To win as world champion in my own country with jersey number one, that would complete the picture."

"I'm relaxed. I'm really looking forward to contesting the Tour of Flanders in my own country as world champion. This classic is extra special for me as a Belgian. Especially now to wear the rainbow jersey in my own country and start with jersey number one... The crowd has been insane all spring. The fact that I already have this race on my record makes me feel less pressure. We will come to the start with a strong block and in the end the most important thing is that our team will hopefully take the win."

Demi Vollering: "I want Ronde van Vlaanderen on my palmares"

"This is definitely a special race for me. The way this race lives here is really unique. I love riding this race. I had a good altitude camp in the Sierra Nevada and am curious to see how my legs will react to it. I want to be good right away on Sunday. I want to have the Tour of Flanders on my palmares at the end of my career. In every classic you feel the build-up towards the Ronde. Let Sunday come."

Sport director Anna van der Breggen: "Multiple contenders for victory"

"We come to the start with a strong team: Lotte Kopecky, Demi Vollering, Lorena Wiebes, Marlen Reusser, Mischa Bredewold and Christine Majerus. They are very versatile and that makes us chances in different scenarios. That's a good thing, because in the Tour a situation can change quickly. That we bring the number one to four in the UCI ranking (Vollering, Kopecky, Reusser, Wiebes) to the start shows how strong the team is. That's why we are not betting on one leading lady, because several riders can win 'Flanders'. They can spread the pressure over each other's shoulders. Hopefully we can add a seventh win in the Tour of Flanders to the history of this team," Van der Breggen concluded.
