Silvia Persico won the fourth stage of the Ceratizit Challenge by la Vuelta. Demi Vollering sprinted to second place and Lotte Kopecky finished fourth in the streets of Segovia. "It's a pity that we finished so close with two riders without taking the win, but we were where we needed to be during the day," said team leader Anna van der Breggen.

The peloton had only just got going when Anna Kiesenhofer went on the attack. The Olympic champion of Tokyo 2021 rode solo for 159 kilometres and was caught only one kilometre from the finish. Her lead was still about five minutes with 35 kilometres to go, but in the support car they were never worried. "We were never scared, but in the end it was pretty tight. It is also just beautiful to see an Olympic champion racing like this", says Van der Breggen. "But if you are just under 160 kilometres in front alone, you know it will be tough in the final. We put Blanka Vas and Niamh Fisher-Black in to close the gap and sprint with Lotte Kopecky. When you see how far Anna Kiesenhofer came in the end, it's really great what she showed."

The uphill sprint was launched and with Demi Vollering in second and Lotte Kopecky in fourth, two Team SD Worx riders finished close behind. "Demi Vollering was there because she was keeping an eye on Elisa Longo-Borghini and Annemiek Van Vleuten for the general classification, Lotte Kopecky was competing for the win. Lotte was boxed in for a brief moment, but if she really had the legs for such an explosive climb, this would have been a great chance for the win. Two and four is a bit sour, but then yesterday was a bad day, where we used a lot of energy and everything just didn't work out. Today the girls were right there where they needed to be. So all in all the feeling is good."

Team SD Worx leads the team classifications. Tomorrow the final stage of the Ceratizit Challenge by La Vuelta will take place. "It already were some tough stages, but tomorrow will definitely be an interesting spectacle. There are a number of teams who are keen on a stage win, including us. It's a tough circuit, a sort of criterium with a lot of corners. It will certainly be a tough final stage."
