On the eve of the Tour de Romandie, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio emphasised it again. Although she is already 36 years old, she has learned a lot in the past two years as a rider with Team SD Worx. It was the reason for her to continue her career after this year. In this year's last WorldTour race, the South African wanted to thank her team one last time. With the overall victory in the Tour de Romandie, she bid farewell to Team SD Worx with a big win.

In the second stage to Thyon 2000, Moolman-Pasio provided a rare sight in the 2022 cycling season. Uphill, she managed to drop World Champion Annemiek van Vleuten after which she increased her lead meter by meter over all competitors. The solid lead she managed to build up thanks to this solo uphill, she did not relinquish in the final stage of the Tour de Romandie to Geneva. The stage ended in a bunch sprint won by Marta Lach after which Moolman-Pasio could celebrate at Lac du Leman.

Moolman-Pasio signed in Switzerland for the 20th win for Team SD Worx this season. The team managed to sovereignly defend its leading position in the UCI rankings this year.

"This is a fantastic way to end my period with Team SD Worx," Moolman-Pasio told reporters afterwards. "Winning the queen stage yesterday and the final classification today. Our team consisted of only four riders, but we showed super strength here. They surrounded me all day and thanks to them I felt very calm and relaxed today in the leader's jersey. I felt like the team had everything under control. For me, it's very special. I have been cycling at the highest level for 13 years, but this is my first victory at WorldTour level."

Moolman-Pasio reiterated that she had made the decision to quit at the beginning of the season, but had come back to it in May. "This win proves once again that it was a good decision to continue next year. After all, I am finishing this season at a very high level. After a good World Championships where I was among the five strongest on the climb, I am now proving I can win at WorldTour level too."
