With the world championships in Hoogerheide, the apotheosis of the cyclo-cross season will follow on Saturday. Blanka Vas wants to end her inconsistent winter with a good result. "Hoogerheide is always a tough course, regardless of the weather conditions. Blanka's form is on the rise. On a good day, a place among the top five is possible, that's what we're going for," says sports director Lars Boom.

Blanka Vas experienced a difficult winter. Due to illnesses and discomfort, she did not always come through last cross season. Sports director Lars Boom: "Last year she had a better cross season. Blanka is not satisfied for herself either. She has a lot more in her than she was able to show. But if you have to rebuild several times in the middle of the season after illness, it comes at the expense of your performance. You miss rhythm and also important races. Then you are disappointed when things go less."

Although Boom is noticing progress. "Her form is on the rise. Last weekend she rode a good race. She is getting better and better, but unfortunately the World championships is the last cross. Top ten should definitely be achievable, but we are aiming higher. On a good day, a place among the top five is possible. That would be nice."

With Marie Schreiber, Team SD Worx will have a second rider for the cross winter next year. Boom: "Marie made huge strides last season and achieved some striking results. She was a stable factor in the crosses she rode. With Marie Schreiber and Blanka Vas, we have two crossers who can make each other better."

Boom will explore the world championships course with Blanka Vas today. "I always liked riding in Hoogerheide, it's a nice wide course with lots of altimeters," Boom looks back at his own career. "But I preferred riding there when there was a lot of mud. I recently looked back at the 2008 world championships on video, when it was very fast. That wasn't my best surface, but for Blanka it may well be like that again. On a faster course, the riders stay together just a little bit easier and she can hold on to that."
