Lorena Wiebes aims to remain undefeated in Scheldeprijs

“A new royal sprint announces itself”

02/04/2024

The Scheldeprijs is usually decided in a sprint and this year looks to be no different. The weather conditions mean it will be difficult to make it a hard race. But that doesn't bother Lorena Wiebes, undefeated winner of the Scheldeprijs. "The Scheldeprijs is about power and positioning. I hope to win for a fourth time in a row."

Lorena Wiebes: "My goal is clear: I want to win here again. It doesn't look like the weather will have a big influence on the course of the race. There is some chance of light rain, but the wind doesn't really seem to play a big role. Although, of course, you never know this for sure. Several teams will want it to end in a sprint, because with Chiara Consonni, Charlotte Kool, Elisa Balsamo and me, four of the fastest sprinters in the world are at the start again. In Ghent-Wevelgem we also took the first four spots after an exciting sprint. So it could be another wonderful battle in the sprint. I'm looking forward to that."

"My sprint is still at a high level. That I haven't lost any sprints compared to last year? That's true, but in the end that says nothing. Every race you start from zero. The fact that with Gent-Wevelgem I have my biggest goal of the spring in the pocket gives me peace of mind and a lot of confidence. Elisa Balsamo is super strong and in Gent-Wevelgem I just managed to stay ahead of her. There will be a lot of chaos in the last few hundred meters. But it will be a matter of good positioning and choosing the right moment. I would like to get that fourth victory in a row in the Scheldeprijs. My hunger is not yet satisfied. With three races left (Scheldeprijs, Paris-Roubaix and Amstel Gold Race), my spring campaign is almost over. It would be nice to add another win."
