Lotte Kopecky heads ambitiously for Amstel Gold Race, her last race of this spring

“One more bang”

With wins in Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Nokere-Koerse and Ronde van Vlaanderen, Lotte Kopecky's spring season can't go wrong anymore. Although it still tastes like more for the 27-year-old Belgian top rider. "My spring went perfectly, but in the Amstel Gold Race I'm going to squeeze everything out once more. It's my first participation in the Dutch classic. So I don't know the race yet. Nevertheless, I'm starting with healthy ambitions."

In Paris-Roubaix, Lotte Kopecky saw her chances go up in smoke when the full favourite group went down. "At the time I thought the worst, but after five minutes on the bike I had power again. Fortunately, I only keep some bruises from that crash. I then built in two days of recovery, because a crash like that has quite an impact on the body. But I can take a beating and have since made good training days again."

The Amstel Gold Race is the last spring race of the season for Lotte Kopecky with Team SD Worx. "This is my first participation, so I have little experience of it. Some hills I don't know. We are coming to the start with a strong collective. So again, several scenarios are possible. I am still fresh enough to pop one last time in this spring. Everything can come out. So I will really go flat out in this Amstel. We will try to make the race hard again."

Regardless of the result in the Amstel Gold Race, Lotte Kopecky is satisfied with her spring. "I won three classics. So it can't really get much better already. That doesn't mean I'm satisfied. In the Amstel, I want to go for the highest again."

After the Amstel Gold Race, Lotte Kopecky switches to cycling. On Monday 17 April, she travels to Canada for the Nations Cup track cycling in Milton (20-23 April). "The aim is to pick up points there with a view to qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics. After that, the belt will come off for a week. After all, it has also been a tough spring. A week of rest will do me good. But first some more banging...", Kopecky concludes.
