Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio has kept her word. In convincing fashion, she won the queen stage of the Tour of Romandie. A stage that was controlled from the beginning by Team SD Worx, on which Moolman-Pasio won the stage with a cabinet piece. At 2.5 kilometers from the top of the Thyon 2000, she left Annemiek van Vleuten on the spot, after which she triumphed solo. "I felt very strong all day, this is my first WorldTour stage win, so this victory is very special for me," she said.

In advance, the second stage of the Tour de Romandie was noted in her calendar. In our race preview Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio had announced that she would like to finish on a high with Team SD Worx and that the second stage had to suit her. "I immediately felt I had good legs. But since it's late in the season, it's always a matter of waiting to see where everyone stands. When we went up the second last climb, I was convinced I was strong. My teammates did a great job putting constant pressure on the rest. On the first climb, Demi Vollering and Anna Shackley took turns attacking, then Marlen Reusser mounted an attack on the flat section before the last two climbs. It was the perfect situation. When we caught back Marlen Reusser's group, I started accelerating and slowing down to thin out the group."

Only Annemiek van Vleuten and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio remained. "I let her place her attacks first. She did that from the saddle, while I was very comfortable in my saddle. At some point I saw that she was done, then I placed my acceleration. I just felt that this had to be my day after a year full of bad luck. Everything came together today and I'm super happy to take a WorldTour victory to my name, the first ever. So this win means a lot to me."

Eyes on the GC

Moolman-Pasio won in convincing fashion. She rode the last 2.5 kilometers solo in front, taking 26 seconds on Annemiek van Vleuten. In the overall standings, she is comfortably in the lead with 30 seconds ahead of Van Vleuten and 49 ahead of Elisa Longo-Borghini. "Obviously we just want to win the Tour de Romandie now. We are only four riders here, but still we are with a very strong group. We will give everything tomorrow to win the general classification," Moolman-Pasio concluded.
