14 June 2019

Lizzie Deignan wins stage 5 of the Women's Tour and takes the lead in the GC. Christine Majerus finished strong as 5th and Amy Pieters 6th. With this result Pieters moves into position three in the GC trailing 32 seconds behind the new leader. Christine Majerus lost the lead in the mountain jersey, 1 point behind Kasia Niewiadoma. Tomorrow is the sixth and final stage of the women's tour.

DS Danny Stam looks back at todays stage. "It was a great day on the road. A tough ride where from the start the attacks commenced. A group of five riders with Amalie Dideriksen took a maximum lead of 4 minutes. Team Sunweb closed the gap. Just before the start of the final climb they were caught. On the climb the three strongest climbers took off. Amy and Christine tried to jump towards them. They got close finishing 10 second behind the winner. I saw a strong team today. That pleases me. Tomorrow we will try to secure the podium with Amy. That will be a tough nut to crack, but will try our best."
