Gent Wevelgem finished this year again in a mass sprint.
After 137 kilometers Dutch rider Kirsten Wild was the strongest sprinter in Wevelgem beating Lorena Wiebes and Letizia Paternoster.
Amy Pieters was the first Boels-Dolmans rider finishing 5th after a strong ride throughout the race.
The Boels-Dolmans team set pace during several stages of the race. Amy Pieters lead the first climb of the Kemmelberg.
In the final kilometers Amalie Dideriksen, Jip van den Bos and again Amy Pieters tried to get away. The headwind on the route towards Wevelgem made any breakaways almost impossible. A long sprint was won by Kirsten Wild who also won Driedaagse de Panne last week.
DS Richard Groenendaal reflects after the race: "It was a difficult race today. The strong headwind, the climbs and the narrow roads made it a hard race. We as team weren't strong enough to put a mark on what happened. Amy and Christine were strong in the front but after the hill zone the bunch came back. the only way to win now was to take part and position well in the bunch sprint. The team did well and so did Amy, This was the maximum result."
